Fire at Crimea fuel depot extinguished after drone strike, governor says

April 29 (Reuters) – A fire at a fuel storage facility in Crimea’s port city of Sevastopol was put out by an apparent drone strike, the Moscow-based governor said on Saturday.

“An open fire on an area of 1,000 square meters was extinguished,” Mikhail Rasvojev said on the Telegram messaging app.

Earlier, he said no one was injured and preliminary reports suggested the depot was hit by two drones.

The Russian-appointed head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, said in a Telegram that air defense and electronic warfare forces shot down two drones on the Crimean peninsula on Saturday.

He said there was no loss of life or damage.

Sevastopol, on the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014, has been subject to repeated airstrikes since Russia occupied the entire country in February 2022.

Russian authorities have blamed Ukraine for the attack.

A spokesman for Ukraine’s armed forces said he had no information to suggest Ukraine was responsible for Saturday’s fire.
