Geekbench 7 Introduces Updated Workflows and Redesigned Multi-Core Benchmarking

Primate Labs has released Geekbench 7, the latest version of its cross-platform benchmarking application, introducing updated testing workflows and a redesigned approach to measuring CPU and GPU performance. The new release focuses on real-world computing tasks, aiming to provide benchmark results that better reflect how people use modern devices in everyday situations.

CPU Benchmarks Now Reflect Everyday Workloads

Geekbench 7 introduces new CPU workloads centred on common media tasks, including audio and video encoding, decoding and processing. These benchmarks are designed to better represent activities such as video conferencing, screen sharing, media streaming and content consumption on smartphones, laptops and desktop computers.

The updated suite also enhances image-processing tests. The Photo Editor workload now includes a broader range of real-world editing tasks, while the Photo Library benchmark adds support for importing and processing JPEG XL and DNG image formats, reflecting the growing use of advanced photography formats.

New Game Physics Test

For gaming performance, Geekbench 7 introduces a new Game Physics workload built on the Jolt Physics engine. The test is intended to provide a more realistic assessment of the calculations commonly used in modern video games.

Multi-Core Testing Receives a Major Redesign

One of the most significant changes in Geekbench 7 is its revised multi-core benchmarking methodology.

Rather than running every workload across multiple CPU cores, the application now performs multi-core testing only when a real-world task would naturally make use of more than one core. According to Primate Labs, this change is intended to prevent artificially inflated benchmark scores and deliver results that more accurately reflect everyday performance.

As part of this redesign, the HTML5 browser test has been removed from the multi-core benchmark suite.

GPU Benchmarks Shift Toward AI and Content Creation

Geekbench 7 also changes its focus for GPU testing, placing greater emphasis on content creation and machine learning workloads instead of traditional 3D graphics rendering.

The updated GPU benchmarks include tasks such as creating face filters for social media applications, using machine learning to upscale images and processing virtual backgrounds for video conferencing software. These workloads reflect the increasing role of AI-powered features in today’s consumer and professional computing environments, including those widely used by Canadian businesses and remote workers.

Cross-Platform Availability

As with previous versions, Geekbench 7 is available free for personal use. The application supports Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux, allowing users to compare performance across a broad range of devices and operating systems.

With updated workloads and a more practical approach to CPU and GPU testing, Geekbench 7 aims to deliver benchmark results that better match the demands of modern computing. By focusing on real-world applications rather than purely synthetic tests, the latest release offers users a clearer picture of how their devices perform in everyday use.
