Highlights, updates, analysis for the full card, including Makhachev-Volkanovski 2

Expect fireworks in the main event of UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday as lightweight champion Islam Makhachev returns to action against featherweight champion Alex Volkanovsky in a rematch of a Fight of the Year candidate from earlier this year. The two champions went toe-to-toe at UFC 284 on February 11 in Australia, but Makachev won a closely contested bout by unanimous decision to retain his lightweight title.

On Saturday, Volkanovski will get another chance to become a two-division champion after Makachev’s original opponent Charles Oliveira pulled out due to a cut in training. Volkanovsky told Yahoo Sports that he accepted the fight on 11 days’ notice so that one day his picture would hang on people’s walls.

In the co-main event former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman fills in for stoppage-stricken Paolo Costa, taking on undefeated Kamchat Sime at 180 pounds. Usman will make his middleweight debut after accepting the Simaev bout on 10 days’ notice.
