Alphabet has reported stronger-than-expected second-quarter financial results, driven by rapid expansion in its Google Cloud business and continued resilience across its core search and digital advertising operations. The performance highlights the growing importance of artificial intelligence investments as major technology companies compete to meet rising demand for cloud computing and AI-powered services.
Google Cloud Leads Strong Revenue Performance
Alphabet Inc. reported revenue of $119.8 billion for the quarter ended June 30, representing a 24% increase compared with the same period a year earlier. The result exceeded analysts’ consensus forecast of approximately $116.8 billion, reflecting broad-based strength across the company’s business segments.
Earnings per share reached $9.11, significantly above the market expectation of roughly $2.87. The result was supported by a substantial unrealized gain on Alphabet’s equity investments, with other income totaling $98 billion during the quarter.
Google Cloud emerged as the strongest contributor to the company’s quarterly performance. Revenue from the cloud division climbed 82% year over year to $24.8 billion, surpassing analysts’ estimate of $22.3 billion.
The company said the increase was driven by growing demand for Google Cloud Platform, particularly among enterprise customers adopting artificial intelligence solutions, AI infrastructure, and core cloud computing services. The trend reflects a broader shift across industries, including in Canada, where organizations are increasingly investing in cloud technologies and AI to improve productivity and digital capabilities.
Search, Advertising and YouTube Continue to Deliver Growth
Alphabet’s Google Services segment also posted solid gains, with revenue rising 15% to $94.5 billion.
The growth was supported by several major business lines:
Google Search Maintains Momentum
Revenue from Google Search & other increased 17%, underscoring the continued strength of Alphabet’s flagship search business despite heightened competition in the AI sector.
Subscription and Device Business Expands
Revenue from subscriptions, platforms and devices grew 15%, reflecting ongoing consumer demand across Alphabet’s expanding ecosystem of digital services and hardware products.
YouTube Advertising Outperforms Expectations
YouTube advertising revenue rose 13% to $11.06 billion, exceeding analysts’ forecast of $10.8 billion.
The company also highlighted strong audience engagement during major international sporting events, demonstrating YouTube’s continued importance as a global platform for live-event coverage and related content.
Profitability Continues to Improve
Alphabet reported that operating income increased 30% compared with the previous year. At the same time, its operating margin expanded by two percentage points to 34%, indicating improved efficiency alongside higher revenue.
The company noted that the latest results marked its 12th consecutive quarter of double-digit revenue growth, underscoring sustained momentum across its businesses.
CEO Highlights Expanding AI Adoption
Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai said the company’s investments in artificial intelligence are creating measurable benefits across its operations.
“Our AI investments are redefining what’s possible across every part of our business.”
Pichai said the second quarter reflected strong momentum for Alphabet, pointing to the company’s 24% year-over-year revenue growth and the acceleration of Google Cloud revenue to 82% growth, supported by increasing demand for AI infrastructure and enterprise AI solutions.
He also noted the growing adoption of Gemini Enterprise, saying that nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 now use the platform.
According to Pichai, Alphabet continues to see robust demand for its cybersecurity offerings, including the recently introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, which he described as delivering highly cost-efficient performance for advanced security applications.
Pichai added that YouTube remained a leading destination for global events, noting that more than 1.7 billion unique viewers watched FIFA World Cup 2026-related videos on the platform.
“These outstanding results show that our differentiated, full stack approach to AI is delivering real, measurable value for consumers, customers, and our partners globally.”
Outlook
Alphabet’s second-quarter results demonstrate continued strength across its core businesses while reinforcing the company’s position in the rapidly expanding AI and cloud computing market. Strong growth in Google Cloud, resilient advertising revenue and improving profitability suggest the technology giant remains well positioned as businesses and consumers continue to adopt AI-powered products and digital services at an accelerating pace.
