Huawei Mate 90 RS Adds Supercar-Inspired Design and Up to 2TB of Storage

Huawei has expanded its premium Mate 90 smartphone lineup with the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design, a high-end model that combines distinctive styling with flagship hardware and storage options reaching 2TB.

The Mate 90 RS builds on the specifications of the Mate 90 Pro Max while introducing a more elaborate exterior design, additional storage capacity and enhanced durability features aimed at the upper end of the smartphone market.

Supercar-Inspired Design Sets Mate 90 RS Apart

The Mate 90 RS features a rear design inspired by high-performance sports cars. Huawei is offering the device in Crimson, Pure White and Jet Black finishes.

Its most distinctive visual element is an octagonal camera housing with a raised central section extending from the camera module toward the lower half of the phone. The design differentiates the RS model from the Mate 90 Pro Max without substantially changing the underlying camera hardware.

Flagship Camera System Includes 200MP Periscope

The Mate 90 RS carries the same main camera configuration as the Mate 90 Pro Max. Its primary camera uses a 50-megapixel, 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0.

A 200-megapixel periscope camera, also based on a 1/1.28-inch sensor, provides 4x optical zoom. A 40-megapixel ultrawide camera completes the main rear camera system.

The smartphone also supports Huawei’s Ruiying Z10 external camera module. The optional accessory features a one-inch RYYB sensor with a resolution of 50 megapixels and covers a 24-240mm focal range.

Support for the Z10 module is otherwise limited within the Mate 90 family to the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition. The camera accessory is sold separately for CNY 5,999, equivalent to roughly US$895.

Kirin 9500 Pro and 6.9-Inch OLED Display

Huawei has retained much of the Mate 90 Pro Max hardware for the RS edition. The phone is powered by the Kirin 9500 Pro processor and features a 6.9-inch tandem LTPO OLED display.

Battery capacity stands at 6,800 mAh, positioning the device among larger-battery flagship smartphones.

One of the biggest differences is storage. While the Mate 90 Pro Max is available with up to 1TB, the Mate 90 RS can be configured with as much as 2TB of internal storage.

The RS model also carries IP69 ingress protection, providing a high level of resistance against dust and water exposure. Satellite connectivity is included as another premium feature.

Mate 90 RS Available in Three Storage Configurations

Huawei is offering the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design in three configurations, all equipped with 16GB of RAM.

The entry model combines 16GB of RAM with 512GB of storage and is priced at CNY 12,999, or approximately US$1,939.

A 1TB version increases the price to CNY 14,999, approximately US$2,237. At the top of the range, the 2TB model is priced at CNY 18,999, equivalent to about US$2,834.

With its 2TB storage option, distinctive automotive-inspired styling, advanced camera system and support for an external one-inch sensor module, the Mate 90 RS represents Huawei’s most premium interpretation of the Mate 90 platform.
