Fujifilm has unveiled the Instax Pal 2, a compact digital camera that significantly reworks the unusual design of its predecessor. The new model adopts a more traditional, analog-inspired appearance while adding an optical viewfinder, creative shooting features and expanded options for sharing and printing images.
The Instax Pal 2 remains a pocket-sized digital camera rather than a conventional instant camera. However, Fujifilm has substantially redesigned the device to give users a more familiar camera experience.
Instax Pal 2 Adopts a Classic Camera Design
The original Instax Pal stood out for its small, rounded body and unconventional appearance. Although it carried the Instax name, the device captured digital images rather than producing instant prints directly.
For the Pal 2, Fujifilm has moved closer to the appearance of a miniature film camera. The compact body now includes a built-in optical viewfinder, something the original model lacked, along with a prominent shutter release.
A screen on the top of the camera provides another way to view and frame photos. Fujifilm has also included a selection of filter effects for users who want to customize their images.
New Animation Mode Captures 10 Frames
One of the more distinctive additions is a new “Animation” shooting mode. The feature captures 10 frames and combines them into a flipbook-style animation.
The addition expands the Pal 2 beyond conventional still photography and reinforces its focus on casual, creative image-making rather than competing directly with advanced compact cameras.
Instax Pal App Supports Transfers and Remote Shooting
The Instax Pal 2 works alongside Fujifilm’s Instax Pal mobile app through Bluetooth. A smartphone can be used as a remote shutter release, while photos captured with the camera can be transferred to the app.
Users can customize their digital images with filters, text and stickers. Photos can also be sent to a compatible Instax wireless printer when users want physical copies.
The camera includes a microSD card slot for additional image storage.
Multiple Instax Formats Available
Unlike many Instax cameras built around a particular instant-film size, the Pal 2 allows users to switch between Instax Mini, Instax Square and Instax Wide formats. Frameless options are also available.
The flexibility gives photographers a way to experiment with different Instax-style compositions digitally before deciding whether to print an image.
Fujifilm Says Customer Feedback Influenced Pal 2
Fujifilm says feedback from users of the first-generation camera played an important role in developing the Pal 2.
“When we introduced the original Pal in 2024, some consumers weren’t sure what to make of it,” said Bing Liem, division president, Imaging Division, Fujifilm North America Corporation.
“Its uniqueness wasn’t for some, while others felt it was a perfect go-anywhere camera and loved the overall image-making process that makes Pal different from other cameras. When designing Pal 2, we gathered extensive customer feedback on the original Pal. And with its new look, reminiscent of a classic analog camera, complete with an optical viewfinder, and the ability to send/post images digitally or print images via instax smartphone printers or any of our Evo hybrid cameras, Pal 2 puts options in the palm of your hand,” Liem continues.
The Instax Pal 2 represents a substantial redesign of Fujifilm’s tiny digital camera concept. While it retains the portable, digital-first approach of the original, its classic styling, optical viewfinder, Animation mode and flexible printing options give the second-generation model a more conventional camera experience.
