On April 22, 2012, all TFC
platforms in Canada will launch Balitang Canada (Canada News) as
a 30-minute weekly program. It will air every Sunday from 5:15 pm
to 5:45 pm, after TV Patrol Linggo, with replays on Mondays from
5:00 am to 5:30 am, before Umagang Kay Ganda. Hosted by veteran
journalist, Marieton Pacheco, Balitang Canada will report the latest
news and happenings affecting Filipino- Canadians from provinces
like Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
Pacheco will be joined by a team of dedicated news correspondents
from different parts of Canada. The show will also have TV Patrol
reporter and host Atom Araullo.
Balitang Canada will introduce new segments that will tackle issues
on Pinoy immigration, entrepreneurship, and travel. Plus, a global
round-up of interesting stories and the latest showbiz news from
the Philippines. The program will also give kababayans a chance
to connect with families in other parts of Canada and the Philippines
thru its “Kamustahan” segment. Balitang Canada is produced
by ABS-CBN Canada and contributes to ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs,
ABS-CBN’s North America Bureau in California, and The Filipino
Channel’s daily newscast in North America, Balitang America.
It was February 2010 when Balitang Canada was launched as a weekly
segment within Balitang America on The Filipino Channel. Balitang
Canada debuted on television with news and feature stories on the
biggest event in Canada that year, the 21st Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
In just a span of two years, Balitang Canada reported stories that
matter to Filipinos throughout Canada. It is the first Filipino-Canadian
newscast to broadcast in both North America and the Philippines
on breaking news happening all over Canada like the 2011 Stanley
Cup Finals riot as well as the death of four Filipino temporary
foreign workers in a horrific car crash in Alberta.
Balitang Canada also featured the achievements of outstanding Filipino-Canadians
like YouTube sensation Maria Aragon and Tomas Avendano, the first
Filipino to receive the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award.
Balitang Canada is The Filipino Channel’s latest offering
in its continuing service of Filipinos worldwide. |
