The Philippine Embassy in Ottawa led fellow-ASEAN missions in
Ottawa in celebrating the 43rd Anniversary of the founding of
ASEAN with an ASEAN Picnic held on Sunday, 08 August 2010 at the
Vincent Massey Park, Ottawa.
In his welcoming address to the participants, Ambassador Jose
S. Brillantes said the picnic was a microcosm of the larger ASEAN
family, where the peoples of each and every ASEAN nation identified
with each other in friendship and shared in the resources of the
region for the benefit of the whole.
The Picnic, which was attended by around 300 participants that
included the officers and staff of the different ASEAN missions
and their families, was filled with fun and excitement. Picnic
games were played, including volleyball, tug-of-war, and children’s
games. The Awarding Ceremony of the year-round ASEAN tournaments
in bowling, badminton and table tennis was also held during the
picnic.
The ASEAN countries represented in Ottawa are the Philippines,
Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Vietnam. Ambassador
Jose S. Brillantes is the Dean of the Heads of Mission and Minister
and Consul General Joseph Gerard B. Angeles is the Dean of the
ASEAN Deputies.
